Panthers Trim Roster to 53

The league-mandated 53 man roster deadline came and went Saturday. With that deadline, many players were sent packing while others breathed a deep sigh of relief.  There were some interesting releases for the Panthers, including safety Robert Lester and wide receiver Taverres King.

Considering the depth at safety for the Panthers is somewhat lacking, I honestly figured that keeping Lester would be a no-brainer, just for the added depth.  King on the other hand, seemed to have played well enough to make the cut, and was thought to be the favorite for situational deep threat duties after Tiquan Underwood was released.  His preseason opener was solid, but the following three games were a bit of a disappointment.  With a 40-yard dash time of 4.4, 200lbs and 6’1″ tall, it’s safe to say that another receiver needy team will snatch him up quickly off the waivers.

The list of players released are below.

LB Denicos Allen
CB Carrington Byndom
G Derek Dennis
CB James Dockery
LB Adarius Glanton
WR Tavarres King
S Robert Lester
WR Marcus Lucas
T Andrew McDonald
S Tom Nelson
DT Drake Nevis
RB Darrin Reaves
DT Micanor Regis
LB D.J. Smith
CB Josh Thomas
DT Casey Walker
FB Michael Zordich
T Kevin Hughes
TE Mike McNeill
S Anderson Russell
G Chris Scott

The Panthers opted to keep 10 offensive linemen including OT David Foucault as well as (UDFA) undrafted free agent LG Andrew Norwell.

We wish them all the best.
