Saturday the Carolina Panthers rookie mini-camp closed, but not without signing one of their own draft prospects.
Sixth round pick, running back Tyler Gaffney from Standford, signed a contract with the Panthers Saturday.
Gaffney is the only drafted rookie on the Panthers who hasn’t finished classes, so he will be missing voluntary off-season workouts next week.
Gaffney, who is 5-11 and weighs 220-pounds, is hoping to make an impact on the roster as he enters a loaded backfield. Gaffney at Standford rushed for 1,709 yards and 21 touchdowns on 330 carries.
According to Panthers senior writer Bryan Strickland, head coach Ron Rivera said, “I believe he’s a guy who will come in and help us as some insurance, and a guy who’s going to fit what we do. When he gets his opportunity, I think [he] can help us.”
