For one night at least, the Panthers were the better team on the field. Starting rookie Nick Foles over Michael Vick who was without a concussion and Bryce Brown for his first start over LeSean McCoy who is also out with a concussion, the Eagles just didn’t have it. It was Cam Newton though who stole the show like we all know he can. The second year QB threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for another two. He had 306 yards through the air, another 52 on the ground, and didn’t turn the ball over once. It was a great night on what has been a lost season for a very talented player. Searching for a number two receiver for a long time now, Brandon LaFell and Louis Murphy were his top two targets in this game. LaFell had 74 yards and a score and Murphy had 65 yards with 55 on one play. Not earth shattering numbers, but a step in the right direction.
The defense was pretty solid against the Eagles ailing offense. Nick Foles still has a lot to prove and he didn’t do much in this one. He completed 16 of 21 but for just 119 yards. The Eagles clearly didn’t want to put the game in the young quarterback’s hands. Bryce Brown had a tremendous game though. He had 178 yards on just 19 carries and got into the endzone twice in this one. A very impressive performance for Brown in his first career start.
For the Panthers, they are now 3-8, so it isn’t like this will turn their season around. At least they proved they can still win a game against a team they are better than. They have a chance to do that again when they travel to Arrowhead to take on the one win Chiefs.
