Panthers Lose a Tight One

Another loss and another step closer to a top 5 pick in next years draft.  With this most recent loss the Panthers fell to 2-8.  Once again, they played a close game but came up short in the end.  Carolina was in control much of this game, but in the end they could not stop the firepower of the Bucs offense.  Doug Martin played a remarkable game in what has become quite the season for the rookie runner.  Freeman had two interceptions but also three touchdowns, including one with just 12 seconds left to Vincent Jackson.  A two point conversion was followed, again to Jackson to force OT.  Receiving the ball first, TB didn’t even allow Carolina’s offense to see the field, sealing a drive with a 15 yard strike to Dallas Clark.  Freeman was kept in check all game, until the final drive in regulation and the only drive of OT.  He came alive down the stretch to leave Carolina fans leaving the stadium with little to cheer about.

This game is just another tough pill to swallow in what has been a lost season.  Ron Rivera’s seat continues to get hotter, and the auditions for next year and long underway.  Brandon LaFell played a good game in this one, which is very big for him.  Newton may be asking for more weapons next year, so it is LaFell’s best interest to start heating up to finish the year.  None of the RBs got hot in this game and once again it was a committee attack.  All that talk of a feature back taking over seems to have been thrown out the window.  Carolina has a showdown on Monday night to face the equally disappointing Eagles in prime time.
